Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) will be holding a series of Open Houses as it conducts a Comprehensive Operations Analysis (COA). The COA will look at existing services and stops and consider how they could be improved.

There is light at the end of the tunnel.
1. the ongoing MPO study will address mass tranit funding.
2. cities that want to do light rail (like your Portsmouth and my Virginia Beach) have a FTA bus service mandate to meet to get Federal light rail dollars.

What about Airport service? Even a simple bus from Military Circle would do.

Route 111 serves Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport on the Peninsula.
In Norfolk, the Norfolk Airport Authority (NAA) is in the pockets of the taxi companies. The NAA refuses to allow buses onto the airport grounds. A "compromise" discussed in 2006 was to reroute Route 8 to the Norview/Azalea Garden intersection, still off airport grounds. It was a sick joke, as passengers would have had to drag luggage forever.
Michael Ragsdale of HR Transit Ideas has toyed with the idea of a Military Circle - airport route.

My idea was to start a bus at the Military Circle lineup and follow Route 15. Route 15 would loose its Robin Hood section and serve the Norfolk Social Security office and this route would pick up the Robin Hood part. It would then head Right onto Azalea Garden then Right into Norfolk Airport.
