As We Await The Counting Of The Absentee Ballots

Both Diezel and Wilson lead (and will probably win) on pluralities. Sessoms is up 10,036 votes while Davis leads by 9,472. Some quick thoughts:

1. The most interesting fact: no opposed Virginia Beach City Council incumbent has a majority of the vote. Diezel is at 48.85%, McClanan is at 46.31%, Wilson is at 43.16%, and Oberndorf at 33.93%. Political thought is so splintered in Virginia Beach that no incumbent has the support of a majority of residents.

As the new Council goes to move forward, that's well worth remembering. Major initiatives will require fluxing coalitions and plenty of ground work.

2. Once I get John Moss' final tally, I'm changing my blog banner. The new slogan will be "(83.86%) of voters rejected the Virginia Beach Taxpayers Alliance (VBTA) and it's extremist agenda."

3. I hope Joe Flores enjoys his pieces of silver for being Harry Diezel's splitter.

4. My personal little joy: here in Aragona Precinct Georgia Allen defeated Rosemary Wilson 50.81% to 30.99%.

5. If it's any consolation to Meyera this morning, she did win here - barely.

VBTA extreme! What happened to your "surging" mayoral candidate? Talk about hypocritical extremist, the angel is the epitaph of in extremis.

It makes no difference about the numbers...the VBTA cannot get a candidate elected, and couldn't keep their favorite in her seat in Rose Hall.

They are extremists whose views thankfully are not shared by the majority of the citizens. Some day they will figure this out and channel all that anger into a positive organization.

Anon 4:26,

It was one of the commenters, not me, that used the adjective "surging" in describing Scott Taylor.

Anon 4:46,

Once the final results are in, I have a planned post that will cover that very topic: why the VBTA can't elect anyone to City Council.

Angel: Why not write an article that any campaign you actively work for is the angelic kiss of death. Maybe loose lips sink ships, or you are a double agent selling information to the opposition to support all your "moderate - right of center" entitlements!

Anon 7:11,

Bob Dyer (2004) and Jim Wood (2006) would be amused by that.

Then, we all know VBTAers hate facts....

oooooh, shoe-in with lot of bucks vs. an old man with less than a couple of bucks, and a candidate against the most hated councilwoman in history. What happened lately? Kiss of death. Don't whisper or tell the angel anything in confidence. He can't wait to spread it to the world so he can hope show everyone how important he thinks he is. He is the greatest way to spread misinformation.
Used, duped, and laughed at behind his back. Way to go angel.

Given the thumping VBTA/TLP/CACI candidates took yesterday, I understand why you want to talk about me instead.

However, your anger and energy would better served dealing with the shambles of what once was the VBTA.

Interesting you stereotype anyone who challenges your tripe as a member of the deaniac groups. No angel, this Oceanview business/resident has had enough your ridiculous views and loose lips. Specifically, your sabotage of the Rerris reelection effort. Some supporter!

Thanks for proving you're an idiot on two levels.

First, it's R-e-r-r-a-s.

Second, the only work I was asked to do by the Rerras Campaign in 2007 was evening phone banking. In that position I didn't have access to anything valuable.

Nice try, but I obviously wasn't your leak.

Oh! My poor typing skills don't have anything to do with your spreading the fabricated stories about pizza, bowling, and baby sitting and campaign funds. For just an infrequent phone banker, how could you profess to have access to all the inside dope unless, let's see . . . perhaps you fabricated it.!!???

It was someone posting under the name of "Dave Gibson" who made those claims on VBDems.org

Not me.

Ok Dave err.. angel (the mole)

Avenging Archangel said...

I'm not Dave Gibson. Gibson is a racist member of the Constitution Party.

Right.

I am not Avenging Archangel

no. angel is a mole for self-centered gratification. He is a loose-lipped conduit of embellished and/or fabricated information. He has no loyalty and shares sensitive information prematurely. Ask a select few members of the Virginia Beach RAC why they hold side-bars with out his presence. Because he can't keep his big mouth shut.

this guy needs help. Does he really live in OV? I think he lives in the Oceanfront and simply holds a grudge. I also think you're the same troll from before.

Thanks, Jessica.

One thing the election results show, as I noted in my post, is the diversity of opinion in Virginia Beach. In the Mayoral and At-Large races, we saw the vote splinter multiple ways.

In that context, local political thought in Virginia Beach can be clearly divided into at least four different camps. Such a diversity provides an array of options for elected officials to consider when developing policy.

What's clear is that the trolling is about trying to silence political speech. Some yearn for the old days of status quoers vs. CACI, but they're long gone.

Okay, how do you all think the new Council will change political debate in Virginia Beach? That's not only how it's done, but how many opinions are heard, in what forums, how will old positions change to reflect new realities, etc.

No prob. Living these past couple of months with my brother in Boston, I'm starting to miss Talknet (I never posted there, I always just spectated) and the political wrangling.

So, rumor has it that your new Mayor wants to run my 25 at night and on Weekends? Can someone please confirm what the plans are? We're thinking of coming home since Boston isn't working out as well as we'd hope.

Jessica,

Sessoms said during the campaign that he wished to run more frequencies, and the outlying routes past 7 P.M.

i myself never heard a specific reference to Route 25.

Michael Ragsdale said...

Jessica:

You might be referring to my Service Booster Plan, which runs the 25 out of Military Circle at 10:08 PM and TCC at 10:53 PM 7 days a week

Michael Ragsdale said...

My Service Booster Plan is not official at all, it's just how I'd run the buses

Prior to today, I had deleted only two posts in the history of this blog: one was racist, while the other was a commercial solicitation. Due to our troll, I doubled that number in one day.

I encouarge debate and discussion. On Blogger I could go to comment moderation, allow only registered Blogger users to comment, or prohibit all comments. I choose to allow anonymous comments to encourage debate. However, it's clear that our troll isn't on here to discuss, but simply launch personal attacks against me.

If you don't like me, don't read my blog. No one is forcing you to surf here. There's a myriad of other blogs online if you don't like this one.

As promised, I sent out an e-mail to try to recruit additional posters from among those who volunteered on the Allen and Jackson City Council campaigns. I hope to have more posters soon to boost this blog.

That's what I remember hearing, the Booster plan. Thanks.
