Coffee With Scott Taylor

Before going to the convention center today, I had coffee (actually, two diet root beers) with Scott Taylor at Bad Ass Coffee. Scott has filed to run for Mayor of Virginia Beach in November's election.

He came across as a good, sincere guy. What really impressed me was the amount of homework he's doing: went to the Department of Economic Development (DED) to learn from them, went to Norfolk Southern to learn rail transit, etc. He should be able to make some sharp points on the stump.

Okay, "He's a longshot!" you say. He's working on a number of small donors, and a grassroots organization. If Weeks and/or Moss withdraws, Taylor could give Oberndorf and Sessoms a run for it. (Alright, Dean won't let Moss withdraw.)

Scott Taylor's website is at http://www.scotttaylor2008.com

If he honestly cares about transit, I'd be happy to help him work the TCC transit center.

Diet root beer? Ugh!

Beyond total longshot, but wouldn't it be nice if he came in ahead of Moss on the vote totals?

Maybe that would drive the proverbial stake through the heart of VBTA once and for all.

The VBTA has a heart? Never known of them to show it.

Taylor unfortunately can't count. Otherwise, he would figure out that he is a splitter who benefits the two front-runners.

The more interesting VB races will be the ones with the NAACP candidates who are lining up to ride Obama's coattails.

African-American Political Action Committee (AAPAC) candidates. The NAACP's By-Laws prohibit it from endorsing candidates.

Anon 10:07,

2004 - Bob Dyer was AAPAC-endorsed, and won.

2006 - Glenn Davis was AAPAC-endorsed, and nearly won.

AAPAC itself is looking to field candidates in at least two races. With a 5 month campaign season (versus 60 days in May), it's going to be a different animal.

You are dreaming. Huh? AAPAC endorsed a nonminority candidate in 2004 and won? 2004 and a white guy? That is a big leap... What a significant impact the AAPAC endorsement brings to the VB races... Pick a few more white guys this go round and you'll be able to claim success in 2008. LOL

Anon 9:21,

Virginia Beach Whites will vote for African-Americans. Look at the February Democratic primary numbers: Obama stomped Clinton in some lily-White precincts.

That was a different horse race...

Getting back on topic, Taylor's website wins for having the hottest women on it.

However, he can't seem to write a coherent, grammatically correct sentence. Does he have a degree? Should that be a requirement to be mayor of the largest city in Virginia?

I know plenty of people who have a degree but no common sense.
