Villaneuva Ice Cream Social

On Saturday afternoon there was an ice cream social held by Ron Villaneuva's campaign for the House of Delegates. It was at his campaign headquarters on Independence Boulevard.

The M.C. of the event was Virginia Beach City Councilman Glen Davis. The guest of honor was House Majority Leader Morgan Griffith. Griffith presented a check to Villanueva's campaign, plus a pledge to send more later.

Also in attendance were Republican Party of Virginia Beach Chairman (RPVB) Kenny Golden, Delegates Bob Tata and Sal Iaquinto, Congressional candidates Scott Riegel and Chuck Smith, state Senate hopeful Jeff McWaters, and previous 21st District Delegate John Welch. Intriguingly, neither Chris Stolle nor Rosemary Wilson was there.

Let's hope we can get Ron Villaneuva elected in November. Only the public employees unions have anything to gain by keeping Bobby Mathieson in Richmond. In fact, Mathieson's bills only have a 16% passage rate in the General Assembly. Of those, some are no-brainers like codifying the closure of the gun background check loophole.

Interesting assessment but frankly I don't know how you reached the conclusion about "only public employees unions have anything to gain" with Mathieson's reelection. The voters in the 21st District have a lot to gain and that is why they elected him. And that is why they will return him to office in the fall.

Personally I had agreed to stay out of this race but if House Majority Leader Morgan Griffith is going to come to VB then I'm going to have to step up and help Bobby Mathieson. I can't stand Griffith as he can't let the GOP members vote for themselves and has to control the votes. So since I can't reach Griffith, then I'll have to help Bobby Mathieson.

I could list a whole lot of things about Ron and his years on City Council but I'll check with a few folks before I start to share those things.

BTW: I like Ron and have supported him in the past. However IMO he made a mistake to jump into this race. As I told him, I think he would have been better running for The US House but he decided otherwise. Great for him if he wins but if he loses, he must realize that he'll never get employee support if he elects to try to remain on City Council when the current term expires.

Why would he not get employee support for another council run? Because he dared to run against Mathieson?

Yeah, William, try propping up Bobby Mathieson. You really did wonders for Reba McClanan.

DeSteph pounded the final nail in Reba's political coffin with his support.

Henry: What happened to you? Are we getting a little big for our britches? You should put your negatives aside and step away from the edge it is a little read blog.

I don't want to the one to point it out but negatives do not fit you very well. If I want to go negative, I can. But frankly I don't think it is the proper method to respond to you. I like you and do not see a need to hammer any points home with you. If you are getting a big head, then that would be your issue. I recomend you put it in prospective and relax a bit. JMO

I'll go to work and leave you to blog your little heart out. So you win... LOL Take care.

Bill,

Did I strike a nerve? Pointing out you failed last time you tried propping an incumbent up makes me big headed? I don't think so.

As for your attempt to dismiss this as a "little read blog", it was just excerpted in yesterday's V-P. I wouldn't judge a site by it's hits: Virginia News Source claims three times as many as hamptonroads.com

No nerves hit as I was pointing out your recent self promotion efforts in Beach Mag, the VP and on your own blog. When you say "we" it makes me believe you have sold your soul to the city and that is a terrible mistake. The old Henry stood up for what was right and didn't cater to the man. Times and people change...

BTW: I wasn't attacking your site. FYI: I've run hundreds of web sites for decades in my own small business so I have a bit of expertise in evaluating the Internet. You might felt I slighted you but it was intended that way although your numbers speak volumes. But we all have opinions that we are entitled to. BTW: getting in the VP isn't an accomplishment as they have few local options and sources from which to choose. That is what gives the VBTA coverage: few counter point options. I give you credit for your accomplishments but think you are starting to act like a little Kirwin. That was my real point... LOL

I'd point out that in my last effort I got three out of three. Warner, Obama and Nye. However to go with your McClanan (and Oberndorf to add one more) theme, I was never asked to do anything except get signatures so they could enter the race. I did what I was asked to do. Not one time after that effort was I ever tapped to provide input or support in those races. I don't know why but I guess they knew what they wanted to do and had enough support. I advise and support those who I believe in when requested. I don't make it a habit to chase down political figures just to see if I can help them out. I have to point out there really wasn't much of an effort by either candidate and the results reflected that effort.

As I said, "you win." And I'm ok with that. Just don't lose the real Henry while you are climbing the political ladder...

Take care.

Bill,

Which V-P mention? I've come up in there in three different forms recently. As for Beach, I was asked to do a phone interview in April, then a photo shoot in June. It wasn't self-promotion in that I never asked for a bit of it.
