64% Believe In The Revised Budget Figure

64% of poll voters believe in the revised construction budget figure of no more than $338 million for Norfolk light rail. 8% have some faith in it, while 27% have none.

The new poll question: should the 1999 merger of TRT and Pentran to form HRT be undone? It's become an issue in the May elections for the Hampton and Newport News City Councils, with some on the Peninsula wanting to go their own way.

I don't like to ask back to back mass transit questions. I thought I was going to get a question out of the RAC strategic planning meeting, but it was pretty dry. I had a phone conversation on the new poll question's issue with an elected official earlier this week, so I thought I'd ask.

that's the last thing we need is things to be seperated. yeah that sounds like something somebody from the peninsula would say (lol) so we would have one mediocre transit service and one modernized transit service with LR and possible expansion. yeah that would make a lot of sense. i can just tell some bonehead from Hampton thought of this. it's bad enough i've read complaints on topix.com that the Southside gets everything blah blah blah. well if u (peninsula) didn't wanna keep riding in horse and buggy and the elected officials weren't so ignorant then maybe we could have a LR on this side of the water. but on the other hand, if the Peninsula isn't going to step their game up for some kinda mass transit we may as well seperate. cuz it will be obvious that the Peninsula doesn't care about moving ahead in transit/mass transit

If they do go their own way, they better take each other's transfers (see the Metro Atlanta's different agencies and how they work)

Shooter,

Newport News is making some land planning changes necessary to get Federal funding for BRT or LRT.

I don't know how serious the movement to unmerge is; it may just be election year posturing based on the recent problems at HRT. Hopefully.

Henry

yeah i hear u. i just hope NN is gonna remain serious, especially with Frank leaving. i'm just bitter cuz of the anti-regionalism in this region. instead of people backing up the more advance cities in hopes that their own city can move in that direction, they want their own thing. that's the reason why we were/are in the mess we're in now.
