Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library

This evening the Virginia Beach City Council voted to rename Central Library after our outgoing Mayor. http://hamptonroads.com/2008/12/beach-council-names-library-after-mayor-oberndorf Geez, wonder where they got that idea from http://avengingarchangel.blogspot.com/2008/11/meyera-oberndorf-library.html

My next suggestion for municipal renaming: let's name Virginia Beach's sewage pumping stations after members of the Virginia Beach Taxpayers Alliance (VBTA) Board of Directors. We'll have to give Reid Greenmun one in sight of a bus transfer center or the planned light rail line.

Since this blog is obviously read, what memorial do I want when I'm gone? A poster case-sized display at the Witchduck Road LRT Station. It would have my photo and a brief write-up. My hope is that my fellow transit users would recognize me from the picture, know one of their own achieved things, and it might inspire them to do something in the community.

Why Henry, I'm flattered that you'd think of me.

However, I doubt Mike Barrett will name anything at SPSA after me, LOL!

How about the Reid Greenmun Oceanfront Tide Station Sewage Pumping Station

Since Reid doesn't like the Oceanfront that much (now all we need to do is extend The Tide to 19th & Pacific and build a Pump Station on the same property...)

How about ignoring the VBTA and letting them continue to implode? Every election they lose shows how little influence they have.

I wouldn't name a perfectly good sewer facility after any of them!

Just fyi.....naming the Central Library after Mayor Oberndorf is especially appropriate since she is respnsible for the toxic mess that has been occurring at the Kempsville Library for the past two years. Ask for the air quality reports that have been done by the city's environmental consultants since November, 2006 and see what everyone in that building has been breathing. They have been unable to find the source of these chemicals (benzene, tetracholorethylene, xylene, toluene, etc) and have no intention of trying to find them with the renovations just beginning. Also the consultant who has been working on this since 2006 was replaced when he wrote a report in May, 2008 that dared to say that this had gone on long enough. That report was rewritten and released without those warnings and he no longer works for that company. Don't take my word for it - get the reports! These are the dates, 1/07. 3/07, 7/07, 10/07, 5/08, 7/08. Why has this information been kept from the public?

mayor's votesplitter(a.wallace)
writes in favor of naming the overpriced convention center after her. "we the people" are over her.
She didn't deserve having the Library named after her. A social
butterfly and a champion of the developers, is not a hero to the
working class, and those who believe in Free Enterprise.

We have had plenty of Good Mayors in the past, and their names aren't plastered all over town.

Since the ex-mayor is so interested
in reading, can she please read the
lips(votes) of the citizens of Virginia Beach. "Please go away", we want change for Virginia Beach.
