DeSteph and The NYC Mosque

You've probably heard by now how Councilman Bill DeSteph sent a letter to the Mayor of New York City opposing a mosque and community center adjacent to Ground Zero, claiming to speak for the City of Virginia Beach and the Commonwealth of Virginia. I have a few thoughts to chip in I haven't heard elsewhere yet.

First, if DeSteph wants to become Zoning Administrator of NYC, let him. We can even throw in a training course by Karen Lasley if it will get that embarrassment out of town.

Second, he attacks the Imam for espousing sharia. Would Bill expect a Catholic to repudiate canon law? It's essentially the same thing, Bill.

Third, if DeSteph thinks New York City affairs should be decided in Virginia Beach, why not the other way around? Bill and his VBTA comrades in arms have been clamoring for a light rail referendum. Fine, we'll let New York City vote on our system. ("You mean you don't have a train in Virginia?!?")

Fourth, DeSteph and his friends can get high and holy about property rights. In this case, the Muslims already own the building. The hypocrisy is thick!

Third, best laugh I've had all day. Humor: let's let NYC vote on Tide extensions (and Night/Sunday buses while at it) since the vbta wants to vote on NYC things

Thanks Henry

Dear Bill.... go ahead and start packing your bags now... leave the Halloween costume, it'll look good in the Councilmember hall of fame, or is it shame?

Whether or not he has a personal opinion on the matter, he should've never used City stationery....

i thought there was something fishy or should i say VBTA'y about that guy when i saw him on the news last night. the first person i thought of was u Henry and wat reaction u would have. so i just read it. unfreakin believable, like these individuals (VBTA) have nothing better to do then to embarass VA even more then wat we've already been

But will people remember this along with the shoe-shine scandal, the genie costume, leaving his wife for a teenage girlfriend, etc.?

Probably not...because he writes big checks to Republicans and they will continue to provide him his last scrap of legitimacy.

Anon 11:11,

I wouldn't be worried. I've said all along that I expect a PAC to be formed specifically to slime DeSteph.

If enough big GOP donors names show up on the PAC's donor list, Republican electeds will have little choice but to sit back and watch DeSteph get nuked.

Henry, apparently no one needs to waste money on a PAC to slime DeSteph as he's doing a pretty good job all on his own....

Anon 3:46,

You assume the voters will remember in November. I'd remind them.

Thank goodness we've learned that DeSteph didn't have the chestnuts to come up with the text for his own letter.....

Imagine my surprise to learn that the mother of his squeeze toy was the culprit....

Oh my.... where do these guys come from?
