Political Party Versus Extremist Cult

This morning is the annual elections and organizational meeting for the Tidewater Libertarian Party (TLP). Voting is restricted to dues-paying TLP members and the only notice I saw of the meeting was less than 24 hours prior, on Virginia News Source.

That stands in stark contrast to the rules of the Republican Party of Virginia Beach (RPVB). RPVB Mass Meetings are announced weeks in advance and open to any registered voter of Virginia Beach who professes loyalty to the principles on the Republican Party.

Conservative voters in Virginia Beach therefore have a choice between a democratic political party (RPVB) or an extremist cult (TLP).

As a Libertarian-Leaning voter, I have attended a few of the local Libertarian breakfasts, and never felt comfortable. It always seemed to be disorganized and "fringy" to me. I do pay money to the National Libertarian party from time to time, but not to the local. They just don't seem right to me. It is almost as if they are all fundamentalist libertarians.

Archie,

I think the Deaniacs would be a better fit in the Populist Party, maybe even the Constitution Party. Trying to pass themselves off as Libertarians is shallow: they get the "reduce the size of government" part, then ignore the rest of the LP's platform.

When Robert Dean went shopping for a franchise in 2001, he chose the Libertarian Party. Why? I don't know the answer, but it makes little sense.

If the national party had any cojones, they'd pull the franchise from Dean.

Avenging Archangel, you have hit the nail on the head. I think Dean wants an office so badly he just shotguns his efforts without really looking at the philosophical/political fit.
