Two-Thirds Oppose Mandatory IZ

68% voted no on going to a program of mandatory Inclusionary Zoning. My question: if not, how do you expect moderate income units to get built?

The new question: will the Virginia Beach City Council put light rail on the ballot? This past week we learned that three major business groups (Chamber of Commerce, Virginia Beach Vision, and Roundtable of Business) have all formally come out against a referendum. In light of that, do you think Council will defy them and do it?

You ask,"... how do you expect moderate income units to get built?"

How about when there is consumer demand for them? Not consumer or lobbyist whining; real demand with cash in hand. They will get built.

According to a Virginia Tech study, Virginia Beach is already over 14,000 units short.

If we fail to address the problem, it will inevitably stunt economic development.

Do you have a link to that study?

No, but I read about it in The V-P and Port Folio. In addition, the City cited it when enacting the density credits program for the SGAs.
