"Town Hall Meeting" Tonight At Virginia Wesleyan

A coalition of anti-tax groups, led by the Virginia Beach Taxpayers Alliance (VBTA), has called a Town Hall Meeting on Transportation tonight at Virginia Wesleyan College at 7 P.M.

For those of you with busy schedules, I'll summarize what will happen tonight:

1. The list of 6 projects out of the MPO will be trashed.

2. Abolishing the Hampton Roads Transportation Authority (HRTA) will be called for.

3. New taxes and fees will be opposed.

4. They'll be unable to draft an alternative list of projects, as they won't have cost estimates.

5. Most of all, they'll never agree on how to pay for Transportation improvements.

There, I just saved you a couple hours.

Elected officials have been invited. My over/under betting line on the number showing up is 3.

I bet a couple of failed electeds will show up (Moss & Dean) and failed candidates (O'Connor, Krause, Erb, et al).

I would guess DeSteph would be the only elected to show up, and then only to get his marching orders from the VBTA.

Not worth it, even if the 27 and 36 ran at night. Don't need to hear VBTA crybabies. Thanks for the heads-up.

Note that last night's meeting was so insignificant that not even Virginia News Source ran a story on it this morning.

Probably hard to make a group of 15 people look like a big crowd, even with Wally Erb's creative photo-shop techniques.

Do we actually know how many attended? Did any electeds show up?

According to Eileen at VBDems.org, her and Joel Rubin were the only two at Thursday's meeting who were at the CCO meeting. That would rule out Bob Dyer and the 6 GA members who were at the CCO.

She complains about the delegation not working with the VBTA, so I doubt any state electeds showed up.

WTF? Why would VBDEMS be working with the VBTA???

You know, attending the meeting to listen and learn what representatives from taxpayer organizations from across the region had to say might add more credibility to your posts that are somewhat trashing something you did not attend.

The meeting was surprisingly well attended.

Had you attened you could have made any statements you wished, asked questions, or made suggestions for how to develop solutions for our region's transportation needs.

That was the point of the meeting.

A great deal of effort was invested in helping to share information about the efforts in Richmond in response to HB 3202 and the recent Coaurt ruling that removed much of the regional funding planned for our region.

Just one serious problem: since the VBTA doesn't have credibility with elected officials, the ideas being exchanged aren't going to be implemented.

So it was a waste of time.

Henry, your opinion is noted - but far from accurate.
